DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENT 1. This assignment is worth 10% of your final grade. 2. The collection of articles is to consist of 10 current newspaper and news/science magazine articles – dated between February 2017 to June/July 2017. These articles should discuss any aspect of human biology (except reproductive or developmental biology, as outlined above). This assignment has a dual purpose: (1) to increase your exposure to current material pertaining to human biology; and (2) to emphasize the dynamic aspects of human biology, and science in general, and how this field affects our daily lives. 3. FOR EACH ARTICLE, do the following FOUR things to demonstrate that you have read each article: i. Print each article as a PDF file these copies will be submitted as part of your assignment. ii. Underline or highlight key sentences within each article that provide pertinent information about the article. iii. In your OWN words, summarize each article in 8 – 15 sentences. Each summary must relate to the subject discussed in the article and must discuss/include the details and explanations presented in the article (in your own words). Label this as Answer #1. iv. In your OWN words, state in 6 – 10 sentences, your analysis of the subject and conclusions in each article. Each analysis should clearly present YOUR reasoning for your conclusions and opinions about the article. Label this as Answer #2. Additional Notes: Articles should be at least one page long and a maximum of 3-4 pages long. Assignments must be TYPED and double-spaced. Answers that have fewer or more sentences than the limits imposed above will lose marks. All work must be in your own words do not plagiarize material from the articles and present it as your own work. i. If quoting a phrase from an article use quotation marks and cite the content. ii. Quoted work should be at a minimum that is, no more than several quoted phrases should appear in your WHOLE assignment. Use your own words. SOURCES FOR ARTICLES 1. Do NOT include more than two articles from any one source, even if they are from different dates. Any article in excess of this limit will receive a grade of zero. 2. Make sure articles are at least 1 page in length and do NOT exceed 3-4 pages in length. 3. News articles may come from any number of sources including newspapers or news magazines, such as the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Macleans, Time, Newsweek, etc. Articles from online versions of these sources are acceptable. Include the web link with these articles AND the date they were accessed/retrieved. 4. Articles also may be from scientific journals such as Scientific American, etc. Articles from online versions of these scientific journals are acceptable. Include the web link with these articles AND the date they were accessed/retrieved. 5. On-line news and on-line science journals also are acceptable (i.e., Science Daily, Science News, and others). Include the web link for each articles AND the date accessed/retrieved. 6. Do NOT include articles from blogs, advertisers, or companies that advertise products relating to the article topic. Articles submitted from such sources will receive a grade of zero. 7. Do NOT use articles/information obtained from Wikipedia, medical information sites, or other similar sources. Articles submitted from such sources will receive a grade of zero.
