Part 1: Find a video clip on the internet that will help us understand any of the topics in chapters 4, 5, or 6. Here is the setup for your post.
- Describe the content of your video as you see below. You have to describe your content in enough detail so we’ll know what’s in it before we watch it..
- The topic of your video must be one that Belsky discusses in the text.
- The video should not include any more information than is in the chapter about your topic. For example, if your video talks about Piaget’s stages of development, it has to include only those stages discussed in module two. The video cannot include all four stages.
- The video content must be accurate compared to what the text has to say about the same topic.
- Please limit the length of your chosen video to no more than 10 minutes, Less than 5 minutes is even better.
- Include the following in your post:
- A link to your video and a sentence introducing it.
- A summary describing the video addressing all of the content in it.
- I’ve written a sample for you below.
To get you started, I’ve included a You Tube search link you can use to find videos. You might have more luck searching for a specific topic such as zone of proximal development.

You are by no means limited to You Tube. You can also search Ted Talks or any other video source as long as the content of your video matches what Belsky says in the text. If you have any questions about the appropriateness of your video, email me.
Here is an example of a video from YouTube that would be acceptable. Using this video, your post would look like this:
- (A sentence introducing your video) This video from YouTube demonstrates the inability of a preschool child to conserve across a variety of tasks.
- (The link to your video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnArvcWaH6I (Links to an external site.)
- (Your paragraph describing the video. Please watch the video and pay attention to the detail I included in my description. That’s the level of detail I expect to see from you.) The video illustrates the thinking mistakes pre-operational children make. A four and a half year old boy is presented with several conservation tasks. First he is asked about a row of quarters illustrating a lack of ability to conserve number. When two rows of quarters are aligned, he says they are the same. When one row is spread out, he says that row has more quarters. He corrects his mistake when asked to count each row. Next he asked about the length of two sticks as one is moved. When the sticks are both aligned, he says they are the same length. When one is moved, he says that one is longer. Conservation of volume is next as he is asked about the volume of liquid in different glasses. First liquid is poured in to two same size glasses. He says the amounts are the same. Then the liquid from one of the glasses is poured into a taller and thinner glass causing the liquid to rise higher in the glass. He says that glass has more liquid because it’s higher. Balls of play dough are used to illustrate conservation of mass. He’s shown two same size balls of playdough and says they are the same. Then one ball is flattened. He says the ball shaped one has more playdough because the other one is smushed. Then the flattened one is returned to ball shaped and he says they are the same. Graham crackers are used to illustrate conservation of area. First two whole graham crackers are split in half. He is give a single half while the interviewer has two halves. He says it’s not fair because he only has one. Then the interviewer splits his into two and he says it’s fair because they both have two. In all of the tasks the boy is unable to conserve.
- You cannot use this video although you can use others from YouTube.
Part 2: Reply to one other student and in one paragraph about the same length as the one you used to describe yours, tell us what you learned from their video.
Scoring Criteria:
- You include a link with a sentence introducing it. The content matches the Belsky text and is accurate when compared to what Belsky says.
- Your paragraph adequately describes your video meaning you have to address all the topics covered when you describe it.
- Your video is 10 minutes or less.
- You replied to another person and told us what you learned by watching their video.
