Kiev, Ukraine – A school district in western Ukraine, facing a severe financial crisis, has reached an agreement with its teachers to pay their salaries in vodka and other products. The unconventional solution was prompted by a district-wide payment crisis. Novoselitsky’s education department is broke, in part because a local distillery is failing and cannot afford to pay taxes to thelocal administration, the report said. Teachers across Ukraine frequently protest chronic wage delays and shrinking salaries.
